Workshop in SMS Varanasi on Human Values & Professional Ethics - Varanasi

In the prestigious management institute, School of Management Sciences, Varanasi, one day workshop on "Human Values and Professional Ethics" was organised in cooperation with "Value Education Cell", UPTU, Lucknow. Addressing in the Inaugural Session, the Hon'ble Chief Guest, Shri Rajul Asthana, Ex. Global Head, Satyam Learning Center, said that, "professional education has indeed led to progress and enhanced performance, but without human values, such progress cannot be sustained for long. Shri Rajul Asthana further said that, today every individual focuses on gaining professional and technical education, overlooking the human values resulting in exploitation of their personal and professional life. The main aim of education is to fecilitate better life and to maintain better cooperation among the family, community and nature. This can be made possible only by embibing human values in professional education.
Guest of Honor, Shri Kumar Samhbav, IIT, Kanpur, said that human values builds and enhances the spirit of excellence in individuals. In present time, it has become imperative to inculcate human values and professional ethics in the academic curriculum of the institutions.
Earlier, welcoming the guests, Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS, Varanasi said that India has always been in the forefront among nations to emphasise on Human Values in education. SMS has since the very beginning, realized the importance of Human Values in professional education and therefore, has established Centre for Spiritualism and Human Enrichment (C-SHE) within the premises of the Institute. The objective behind establishing the centre, is to initiate research on Human Values and to inculcate such values in students by making them understand its importance in their lives. Expressing his happiness over SMS being selected for conducting this workshop by Value Education Cell, UPTU, Lucknow, Prof. Jha said, such programmes will be frequently conducted in the future also. The workshop was conducted in two technical sessions. First Technical session was addressed by Shri Rajul Asthana and the second technical session by Shri Kumar Sambhav.
Mr. Sandeep Singh, Reader, SMS and Workshop Coordinator, detailed the theme of the workshop and said that there has been two major paradigm shifts in the last century, i.e. Shift from Science to Technology and from Technology to Business. Amidst the shift profitability has got preference and human values have gone into the oblivion. So the need is to restore human values in professional education.
Earlier, programme began with the lamp lighting and garlanding of statue of Goddess Saraswati. The Hon'ble Guests were felicitated with a memento by Dr. M.P. Singh, Executive Secretary, SMS and Prof. P. N. Jha, Director, SMS. In the end, Mr. Kamal Sheel Mishra, Convener of the Workshop, proposed the Vote of Thanks. The session was coordinated by Ms. Indrani Sengupta, Lecturer, SMS, Varanasi. On this occasion, Mr. Sanjay Gupta, Registrar, SMS and all the faculty members were also present.
